Nikki DeLoach bonds with son over horror show

Nikki Deloach opened up about how an iconic horror TV show helped her and her elder son, Hudson create a close bond.

Hudson, who was born on October 22, 2013, experienced anxiety and is a neurodiverse kid at the age of six, his mother confirm.

Due to his mental reasons, he found an unexpected relatability in the hit series, Wednesday.

In an appearance on Made Possible by Pop Culture podcast, the Home Turf actress revealed that the spooky show brought her and her son closer.

She said that by seeing Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) embrace being unlike everyone else, her son has begun to see his illness as a unique strength.

“We can only watch during the day,” she said. “And my little one cannot watch it. So I would just say to parents, ‘I watch it with my 11, almost 12-year-old, and every child is different.’ My eight-year-old, it is absolutely too scary for him to be able to put his eyes on.”

She continued, “It reminds me of probably what mothers felt like watching ‘Awkward’ with their daughters. And for me, this is why: my 11-year-old has a very dark sense of humour.”

The Hallmark actress went on to explain that as a neurodivergent youth, “He has always felt different.” However, while they’ve wanted him to celebrate “the fact that he’s different,” those feelings didn’t click until they started watching Wednesday.

While battling with first-born’s mental illness, she is also fighting against her younger ones, Bennett’s congenital heart defects that required three surgeries.

DeLoach, shares Hudson, 12, and Bennett, 8, with Ryan Goodall.
