Jennifer Lopez reveals how she survives constant scrutin

Jennifer Lopez opened up about how she has attracted both praise and criticism throughout her career.

In a recent chat during the Los Angeles TimesThe Envelope 2025 Oscar Actresses Roundtable, the 56-year-old actress talked about how her perspective on fame and attention has shifted during her time in the industry.

For the interview, published on Tuesday, December 16, Lopez joined Emily Blunt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tessa Thompson, Sydney Sweeney and Elle Fanning.

During the interview, the group was inquired about how they managed to “push the negative stuff” about themselves or their personal life aside and “focus” on their work.

Sweenwey said in response that it’s all “just outside noise.”

The Housemaid star explained, “When we walk on set, the world kind of disappears and we come to life in a different kind of way. Those are the moments and the relationships that matter. Everything else is just people we don’t know.”

Then Paltrow turned to Lopez and said, “I want to hear your answer to this question.”

The multi-hyphenate responded, “From the very beginning, for whatever reason, I’ve been a lightning rod for nice things and a lot of negativity.”

Lopez went on to say, “And it’s hard because you say to yourself, ‘These people don’t get me. They don’t see me. They don’t understand me.’ Then all of a sudden they do. And then they don’t again.”

“Even from when I was very young, I would always say, ‘I know who I am. I’m a good person. I know what I’m doing. People wouldn’t hire me if I wasn’t good at what I do.’ I was always affirming myself and keeping my feet on the ground,” she noted.

While giving credit to her parents for giving her a strong “sense of self,” she added, “And what Sydney was saying, I’d have to block out the noise so I can put my head on the pillow at night and go, ‘I did good today. I was a good person. I was kind to people. I worked really hard. I’m a good mom,’ that has always helped me through.”

It is pertinent to mention that Lopes is mom to 17-year-old twins Max and Emme.
