Gwyneth Paltrow is being called a “mean” ex.
Ione Skye isn’t holding back when it comes to her thoughts on Paltrow’s past romance with her brother, Donovan Leitch.
In her new memoir, Say Everything, Skye reflects on a less-than-ideal vacation with the former couple, revealing that she wasn’t exactly impressed with how Paltrow treated Leitch.
“Vacationing with Dono and his intimidating new girlfriend (yes, that Gwyneth) did not exactly sound relaxing, but anything was more relaxing than living in fear of the next earthquake,” Skye, 54, wrote while recalling their 1994 trip to Mexico following the Northridge Earthquake, as per The Daily Mail.
At the time, Paltrow was still early in her acting career, starring in films like Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, long before her Oscar-winning role in Shakespeare in Love.
Meanwhile, Leitch spent most of their vacation sick in bed, which, according to Skye, didn’t seem to earn much sympathy from Paltrow.
“At breakfast, Dono had distractedly tipped his water glass (he was one of the world’s most distracted people). A few drops had splashed Gwyneth, and she’d snapped, ‘Idiot.’ With a laugh, but still,” Skye recalled.
The moment didn’t sit right with Skye, prompting her to ask her brother privately, “Gwyneth [was] always mean to you like that?” But Leitch, seemingly unfazed, just laughed it off.
“He was 27 and looking toward the future, to marriage and kids. Gwyneth was only 21 and wasn’t ready for anything too serious,” Skye explained. “Well, at least not yet.”
That romance, however, didn’t last long.
Just six months later, Paltrow landed a role in Se7en, where she met Brad Pitt. The two quickly became an item, dating from 1994 to 1997 and even getting engaged before calling it quits.
As for Leitch, it seems he took the breakup in stride—though Skye’s memories of that Mexico trip remain crystal clear.
