Govt Approves Reduction in Electricity Tariffs

Electricity tariffs are expected to decrease this month as consumers across Pakistan may receive relief under the latest monthly fuel cost adjustment.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking a reduction of 65 paisa per unit in power tariffs.

NEPRA will take up the request during a scheduled hearing on November 27.

The proposed reduction is linked to the fuel cost adjustment for October, which if approved will be applicable to electricity consumers nationwide, including those in Karachi.

At present, the fuel adjustment for September is already being charged. Last month, electricity rates were reduced by 48 paisa per unit under the same adjustment mechanism.
